Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements and government regulations related to safety (e.g., OSHA, IaOSHA, MSHA) by developing, implementing, and managing company safety policies and procedures.
- Stay informed of current trends, techniques, and best practices in workplace safety by reviewing publications, utilizing online resources, and participating in professional organizations.
- Develop and maintain safety-related documents, including employee safety manuals and training materials; establish and update standardized safety protocols.
- Collaborate with the Employee Development Manager to deliver training programs for employees and supervisors on topics such as injury reporting, hazard communication, and the proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Administer a comprehensive safety and health record-keeping system to ensure compliance, support injury and incident investigations, and manage claims processing.
- Conduct regular site safety audits and lead Tool Box Talks to reinforce safety awareness and practices.
- Oversee the company’s safety program, including required OSHA training, maintenance of written safety policies, incident investigations, and preparation of regulatory documentation (incident reports and annual summaries). Analyze accident data and provide reports for Workers’ Compensation hearings and insurance renewals.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, aligned with the overall safety and risk management functions of the company.
Required Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of accident prevention techniques and safety procedures.
- In-depth knowledge of construction industry practices, equipment, and safety standards.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and general construction safety principles.
- Expertise in the safe operation of construction equipment and handling of materials.
- Working knowledge of workers’ compensation procedures and reporting requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- Awareness of occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions on construction sites.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Analytical skills for evaluating incidents, interpreting data, and formulating effective safety solutions.
- Experience maintaining accurate safety records and developing necessary documentation.
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of audiences using both technical and non-technical language.
- Strong interpersonal skills to influence and promote a culture of safety.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Occupational Safety, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field.
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
- OSHA 500 Certification or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation preferred.
