Vascular Tech - Wantagh - Full Time - Days - OFFSITE

The Offsite Vascular Coordinator performs all required ultrasound and clinical evaluations at a technical level requiring limited supervision. The Vascular Sonography Specialist maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field of vascular disease and new procedures, as they evolve.

Responsibilities
  • Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations.
  • Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological and diagnostic images.
  • Responsible for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the patient while in the specialist’s care.
  • Maintains a daily log of patients seen.
  • Maintains ultrasound equipment and work areas and maintains adequate supplies.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and explains procedures to patients.
  • Assesses the patient and correlates the clinical history with the test to be performed.
  • Consults supervisor when necessary to determine appropriate vascular lab procedure. Consults with referring MD and/or patient chart regarding patient’s history when necessary.
  • Performs the following procedures of a moderately complex nature: a. Ankle Brachial Index, segmental pressure and pulse volume waveforms of the upper and lower extremities b. Extracranial Carotid and vertebral duplex ultrasound c. Renal artery and renal vein duplex ultrasound d. Mesenteric artery and mesenteric vein duplex ultrasound e. Peripheral artery (subclavian, axillary, brachial, radial, ulnar, digital, aortic, iliac, femoral, popliteal, anterior tibial, peroneal and posterior tibial) duplex ultrasound. f. Superficial temporal artery ultrasound (for giant cell arteritis) g. Ultrasound surveillance after lower extremity bypass or angioplasty/stenting h. Ultrasound of internal mammary, radial and ulnar arteries prior to coronary artery bypass surgery i. Venous duplex ultrasound for deep venous thrombosis of the upper and lower extremity j. Venous reflux studies k. Venous mapping for conduits for vascular or cardiac surgery l. Venous duplex ultrasound for deep venous thrombosis of the IVC and Iliac veins m. Ultrasound for the detection of pseudoaneurysms or AV fistulas n. Ultrasound guided thrombin injections for pseudoaneurysm o. Ultrasound for the detection of aneurismal disease (abdominal aortic aneurysm, popliteal aneurysm etc.) p. Ultrasound for Aortic stent-graft surveillance q. Arterial and venous duplex ultrasound for pre-operative surveillance for dialysis graft access
  • Operates complex ultrasound equipment, cameras, recorders and other patient assessment equipment pertinent to department needs. Selects appropriate equipment and transducer frequency/size for proper examination.
  • Recognizes the significance of all structures visualized on the monitor and is able to differentiate normal from abnormal and recognize artifacts. Understands when to seek advice.
  • Recognizes the limitations of electronic equipment.
  • Follows protocols and is able to deviate from normal techniques when clinically necessary.
  • Reviews pathology, surgical, and angiography reports to follow patient’s progress and to provide a means of reviewing the accuracy of the vascular laboratory examinations.
  • Prepares a summary of technical findings and reviews findings with technical director/chief technologist and/or interpreting MD. Relays preliminary findings and/or final reports to proper referring physicians or departments according to laboratory policy.
  • Keeps up-to-date in the field of ultrasound and vascular technology by reading and/or attending conferences or symposia.

Qualifications

1 year of clinical experience in a dedicated vascular lab preferred.

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $24.3731 - $39.5068 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
